Painted Segmented Vase

Image
My brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Debbie, craft beautiful segmented vases and bowls . My wife, Joan, suggested purchasing one as a Christmas gift for my mother. Jim proposed a collaboration... he would make the vase, I would paint a scene. This seven inch vase was the result.  With only about 3 1/2 inch square of curved "canvas" to work with, it was a challenge. I chose the historic San Francisco de Asís Parish Church in Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico, hoping it would evoke memories of my mother's childhood. Oh, my 84 year old mother loved it. Christmas Season Art

Image
In late December, I painted three small acrylics for my grandchildren: a mason jar filled with flowers for Evelyn, a pink rose for Mathilde, and a red fox for Jude. Six-year-old Mathilde was so impressed by the fox that she decided to copy it on this black sketch pad she got for Christmas. I think her sense of shapes is remarkable. Arms of the Fisherman

Image
This is inspired by the words of one of my songs, "The Arms of the Fisherman," It's on a 16x12 stretched canvas in bright acrylics. The Arms of the Fisherman By Tom Hokanson Let the waves wash over you Let the love rush over too And you will be in the Arms of the Fisherman Come and rest inside His boat When the storms rage, you will float So put yourself in the Arms of the Fisherman In our struggles there will be On the shore and on the sea Jesus waiting there for me. And you. So run into the Arms of the Fisherman When you read the Bible book There’s a Spirit and a hook And you’ll be caught in the Arms of the Fisherman Walk on water if you can If you can’t then take His hand And you’ll be held in the Arms of the Fisherman When the water is too deep When the mountain is too steep Jesus saves the day for me. And you. So run into the Arms of the Fisherman
