Painted Segmented Vase

Image
My brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Debbie, craft beautiful segmented vases and bowls . My wife, Joan, suggested purchasing one as a Christmas gift for my mother. Jim proposed a collaboration... he would make the vase, I would paint a scene. This seven inch vase was the result.  With only about 3 1/2 inch square of curved "canvas" to work with, it was a challenge. I chose the historic San Francisco de Asís Parish Church in Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico, hoping it would evoke memories of my mother's childhood. Oh, my 84 year old mother loved it. Bienvenida a mi Casita

Image
"Bienvenida a mi Casita" - "Welcome to my Little house" For me, this small 8x8 acrylic on canvas evokes images of Southwestern art in New Mexico. It reminds me of a little house in Santa Fe where I lived as a child or the house we recently stayed at in Taos.
