Red Car at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba


A friend of mine visited Cuba in the Spring and sent me lots of pictures of the remarkable automobiles they somehow keep running after decades and decades. This is from one of her photos, probably a 1958 Dodge Custom Royale, in front of a legendary hotel in the heart of Havana.

Painted Segmented Vase

My brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Debbie, craft beautiful segmented vases and bowls . My wife, Joan, suggested purchasing one as a Christmas gift for my mother. Jim proposed a collaboration... he would make the vase, I would paint a scene. This seven inch vase was the result.  With only about 3 1/2 inch square of curved "canvas" to work with, it was a challenge. I chose the historic San Francisco de Asís Parish Church in Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico, hoping it would evoke memories of my mother's childhood. Oh, my 84 year old mother loved it.
